Wheel Pants

I once owned a Piper Cherokee airplane.  I thought it was the prettiest airplane ever designed.
That is, until the tires needed changing and we discovered a crack on the wheel covers that
necessitated taking the wheel pants off until they could be repaired.

Without the wheel pants the airplane lost all of its natural beauty.  It looked years older and slower.
All I could see when I approached the airplane was the ugly tires hanging beneath the wings.
It appeared as if the plane wouldn’t fly very well, and indeed I learned that without wheel pants, the
drag increased.  The airspeed decreased about 4 knots and fuel efficiency also went down.

The wheel pants surrounded the ugly black tires with a grace and beauty that was becoming to the entire
design of the airplane.   Yes, the wheel pants helped to make the airplane attractive!

Sometimes I think we believers need wheel pants as well.  We need to surround ourselves with God’s Word,
good books, good music, and wholesome relationships.

We need wheel pants!  We need to reduce the drag.  We need to let the beauty of God’s design show in us
and be attractive to people who need the Lord.   Godliness is becoming.  It is beautiful and attractive.

We need to put on the garments of God . . . the Helmet of His Salvation, the Breastplate of His
Righteousness, the Robes of His Justice, the Shield of His Word and the Shoes of His Deeds.

“Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.”  Ephesians 6:11
