The Return Flight Home

For all who travel, the return flight home is most welcome!  I have often made this announcement over thecabin intercom after landing in Orlando, Florida.

“To those who have just begun your visit here, have a great time at Mickey Land.  To those who are ending their travel here, welcome home.”

But every time I think of those words, I am reminded of the scripture, “Here on earth we have no continuing place.  Howbeit, we seek one to come.” Hebrews 13:14

This world not our home but only a temporary dwelling place.  Like the Apostle Paul told young Timothy, we must stir the spiritual gifts within us as we journey to our eternal destination.

Confirming and purposing in our heart, we believe what God is doing.  He is setting the world right, joining our future with His present in righteous judgment.

We can fly to distant world destinations and find temporary happiness.  But as the poet said, this world is but a vale of sorrow compared to the eternal joy that awaits us at our final destination.

“Behold, I tell you a mystery:  We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the sound of the last trumpet.  For the trumpet will sound and the dead will be raised incorruptible and we shall be changed.”  I Corinthians 15: 51

"For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.”  2 Corinthians 5:10
“And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment.”  Hebrews 9:27

We live in God’s sanctity of space where He is employed in the story of our recovery and redemption.  He is making us fit for our final dwelling place with Him.

“There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.”  Romans 8:1

God’s Holy Spirit is enabling us to eternal rest in heaven.  Jesus says, don’t look here.  Look there!   Don’t just ride along.  Follow Me!  I am your Hope.

“I go to prepare you a place, that where I am, there you may be also.”  John 14:3

Are we there yet?  No, but just a few more days to work.

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.” Psalms 116:15

High Flight

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence.  Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.
